How long do tires last on a road bicycle? (If ridden properly meaning no skidding ect.)?

I want to buy a road bicycle to ride around the city and to certain places like school, grandma's, aunt etc. I was wondering how long the tires last before replacing. The wheels on these bikes are so large in diameter and they make the tires look thin. I just don't want to speed $400+ and buy tires each year.

I plan to ride this bike at least 4 days a week or more unless I'm sick, Holidays, bad weather, etc.

O yes can you recommend so bicycle brands that have reasonable prices.

  1. Tires will last quite a while. It all depends on how many miles you ride and the conditions of the roads- just like a car's tires. I have to replace mine every three to five months on average- but I ride 200-300 miles a week. For value, you should visit a shop like Performance Bike. They are a value bike shop. Many cyclist scoff at them but they don't seem to realize that not everyone can afford a $5,000 machine. They sell Fuji, Ironhorse, Schwinn ( the good ones not the crappy dept. store models), and their own house brand Scattante. All of these are really good and you can buy them for a lot less than most brands. Other brands worth noting are Felt and Giant. They make some pretty reasonably priced entry level road bikes that will probably fit your budget as well. Good luck

  2. well  some tires can last a couple thousand miles... I ride vittoria rubinos and they last me a really long time.. as for the bike...it depends on how much you would like to spend Specialized is a very good company and they do have some decent bikes in the lower price range. it seems that you might want a flat bar road bike which puts you in a more comfortable  and reasonable position for an entry level rider. I ride my road bike about 150 miles a week and dont have to replace my tires hardly at all unless i get a flat...

  3. I don't think you have to worry about wearing out the tires that often.  Check with the local bike shops and see what they have, they all have good bikes.
