How long do we have to use the car seat with the stroller for?

We do not have a car, but of course, by law, a car seat was required for the baby to leave the hospital. Our daughter is 4weeks now. We use the car seat if we're going far in a cab or in a friends car. When it's my husband and I and we're traveling by subway we use the car seat in the stroller also. My husband is very nervous about having the baby in the stroller without the car seat. The stroller that we have is the Maxi Cosci Perle. I want to know if it's okay to have our daughter in the stroller without the car seat.

  1. you can only use the carseat till the baby is 1 yrs old and at least 20lbs...then you need the convertable seat....

i had to buy the convert seat when mine was 4 months..she was to chunky and unfomftable with her infant seat....

you can use the stoller for some time though...

  2. Depends - most likely you DO need to use the car seat with the stroller until baby is at least 4 months old. Check the manual. Most strollers that come as part of a travel system do not lay completely down and therefor are not safe to use with a baby. To much of an upright position and their head can flop forward and cut off their airway. (That's why the strict 45 degree recline for the car seat until baby can sit unassisted and hold his head up) There are some strollers out there that say newborn and up b/c their seats do fold flat.

After reading through some of the reviews on the stroller, you may be alright, one reviewer said it reclined almost flat. DEfinitely check the manual to see if it can be safely used without the seat for a newborn.

  3. The max for the car seat is 1 years old, or once the child's feet extend over the edge.

As long as the baby is strapped in and you have the head supports in the stroller I think that's fine to use it with out the car seat part.

  4. yea thats fine but i would still use the carseat on the subway only cause god forbid something happened u would want her to be safe but when id take my son for walks and what not i had him in just the stroller part but he would lay flat untill he was able to hold his head up on his own.

  5. I'm not familiar with your stroller, but if it can recline back to a laying down position and has a good harness in it, I would say, go ahead and lay baby in the stroller.

I think it's more of what you as a parent are comfortable with.  I didn't put my son in his stroller without the carseat until he was 6 months old and could sit up pretty well on his own.  But I'm a nervous new mom, so that's just me.  LOL

  6. Yes you can.

There are no counter indications against a stroller for infant of any age for as long as the stroller is designed for one. It should have appropriate buckle (5 point is the best, but 3 point is also acceptable), and should be able to lay the child flat.

The car seat is not required in strollers. That's why it's called a "CAR SEAT", not "INFANT SIT". Most people who have cars prefer to use travel systems with car seat on top of a stroller for one simple reason - you can transfer a sleeping baby from car to stroller and vice versa without disturbing them...

Of course the car seat is a bit more protection, but it is mostly designed for kind of impact you suffer in a car accident. It won't do much better than regular stroller on regular road bumps and dips.... So unless you tend to bump into trees when you walk with a stroller - you should be fine!

    LEM.
