I have the beans in cans if that helps. Some sites say bring to a boil and simmer for a half hour while others say 2 hours.

  1. the 2 hours is for dry beans that have never been cooked.  If you cooked the canned beans for 2 hours, you would have bean puree.  If you are eating them as a side dish, heat through, if you are making chili, I just add them when I add the canned tomatoes and simmer till I feel the seasoning are all blended well, about 20 minutes.

    and enjoy ;)

  3. Since you are using canned you can simmer your recipe slowly for 30 mins to 2 hours. The longer you cook the more the flavors will develop. The concern is that the beans will fall apart if cooked too long. Remember the next day it also tastes better. So remove from heat and cool down then refrigerate and reheat the next day. YUM-YUM!

  4. I usually cook it for 30 min...

  5. If you were using dried beans, you would soak them in water over-night, and then cook then make chili. The whole cooking process would take about 2 hours. The pre-soaking is required to get rid of raffinose that makes you f**t.

Canned beans are already cooked. If you are making chili, just add them and cook till the meat is tender. The meat may take about one hour to get tender.

If you just want to eat beans, heat the canned beans to the temperature you like and eat, They are already cooked. No need to boil or re-cook them.
