How long do you get to pay in a cheque?

Hey guys, I live in the UK and got some birthday money on cheques in May 2008, it's now August so I was just wondering whether I'd still be able to pay these cheques into the bank? I'm with the bank Abbey.

Why haven't you deposited them? They could have been earning interest! Every day you hang on to a cheque you are flushing money down the loo...

Go ahead and deposit the checks.  I'm in the US.  Here, you generally have 6 months to cash a check before it will not be honored by a bank.

6 months is normal in the US.  The actual rule is whatever the bank decides unless a specific time is printed on the check itself.  I would imagine the rules are similar in the UK.  Either way, the BANK will know.
