Hey guys, I live in the UK and got some birthday money on cheques in May 2008, it's now August so I was just wondering whether I'd still be able to pay these cheques into the bank? I'm with the bank Abbey.

  1. 6 months

Why haven't you deposited them? They could have been earning interest! Every day you hang on to a cheque you are flushing money down the loo...

    Silly goose!

  2. Go ahead and deposit the checks.  I'm in the US.  Here, you generally have 6 months to cash a check before it will not be honored by a bank.

  3. 6 months is normal in the US.  The actual rule is whatever the bank decides unless a specific time is printed on the check itself.  I would imagine the rules are similar in the UK.  Either way, the BANK will know.
