How long do you have to be an RN before you can become a Neonatal Nurse?

  1. If you mean working with healthy newborns, that could be right out of school.  If you are talking about neonatal intensive care, hospitals usually require experience working with newborns before you can work the NICU.  I think 1 - 2 years in common.  Some may require additional course work also.
