How long do you have to go to school for a state trooper ?

its my last year in high school and i wanted to know how long would i have to go to college for a state trooper ?

  1. not long, so i hear...there are guys that i went to high school with, who were younger than me, and they became cops soon after high school

  3. Most states require a college degree for all law enforcement officers.  If you are not picky about which state you are a trooper in, then you might be able to skirt the requirement.  

    Other than the college degree, you will also have to go through a criminal background check, meet certain physical requirements, prove your verbal and mathmatic ablities on a standardized test, and attend the state's law enforcement academy (usually a minimum of 8 weeks of intense study and physical conditioning).

I obtained my degree for CJ, applied shortly before my last semester started.  Went through the process and was accepted.  I entered the Academy shortly after I graduated, 6 months later I graduated the Academy.  My agency requires at least a Associate's degree or 60 semester credit hours.  I chose to go for a Bachelor's degree and used my time in college to do ride-alongs, get in good physical shape, and learn as much as I could from other LEOs.
