How long do you have to have lived in the state before you can qualify for in state tuition usually??

my friend from overseas has family in california. he's wondering if he can get in state tuition if he lives with them?

  1. i just arrived in the U.S. about 6 months ago and enrolled for fall 2008 classes at a community college. they made me pay the state tuition because my visa is as a Permanent Resident. if your friend's visa is a Student Visa, he will be considered an International Student and would be given an out-of-state tuition which is more expensive. it probably depends on his Visa status.


  2. Are they his parents? Most states require that you be a resident for at least a year.

    The following website is specific to this college, but I believe it has all of the laws regarding California residency.
