  1. Here is more info to add...

Treats: Ferrets treats that you buy in stores, any cooked (some might argue raw but I don't!) pieces of meat (boiled chicken is great!) ferretvite or ferretone (it's a gel in a tube, made for ferrets, that they LOVE...makes trimming nails a lot easier!) or baby food (check the ingredients, it cannot contain any veggies, just meat!). That's all I can think of - just make sure not to feed them anything with sugar...no raisins or cheerios!!

Litter: I would not recommend cat litter because it is not good for the respiratory tract. You should use recycled news paper pellets (called Yesterday's News here in Canada) It is also less messy than cat litter because the pieces are bigger and they can't throw it all over the room!

Food: Please use a high quality ferret food and not cat food. Do some research on the ingredients in the food you are using and remember that ferrets are CARNIVORES!!

Toys: Ferrets play with pretty much everything! You can get cat toys (make sure they don't have any small pieces that they can bite off and swallow, or feathers, and don't get anything that's rubber) mine like small teddy bears (eyes and noses removed!!) and rolled up socks. Ferrets also love tunnels, you should consider buying a dryer vent hose (Approx. 3$) they should love it and it's a great alternative to the tunnels made for ferrets that cost 30$!

Cages: Make sure they have a fairly big cage, with enough room to play in, and preferably a multi-level cage. (They are pricy...a couple hundred at least but they need lots of room!) The cage needs to be cleaned daily to avoid any odors.

Play time: Ferrets love to play!!! They need at least 2-3+ hours of free play time a day. I live in a tiny apartment and I have a whole room dedicated to my ferrets, there is NOTHING they can get into, swallow, chew etc...you need to be VERY careful when letting your ferrets out because they will get into everything!!! If their head fits, the rest of their body will fit too!! Do not let your ferrets lose in your kitchen or near your washer dryer because they can get lost in there and hurt themselves. You can take them for walks - just make sure they get their yearly shots to prevent getting diseases.

Cost: Ferrets are considered exotic animals so they tend to lead to sky high vet bills. I would consider putting a small amount of $ aside monthly for ferret bills, because when they hit, they hit hard!!!

Bathing - it is a myth that bathing your ferrets more often will make them stink less - actually the less you bathe them the better. Mine get a bath approx. every 3 months, and that's it. As long as you keep their little clean, there is not much odor.

  2. Well you should let your ferret or ferrets out of their cage every day for a couple of hours but when you first get your ferret i would keep it in its cage for an hour or so

so it can get used to its new enviroment

im gonna tell you a little more about ferrets so u can tell your parents more

They need baths like once or twices a month you can use ferret shampoo and conditioner or you can use dog shampoo and conditioner (thats what i use) they both work fine

you need to scoop the litter box every day

and check to make sure he/she has food and water

my ferrets like froot loops and craisons they are good treats for them

and you should have a cage with a couple levels ferrets need lots of space

i really hope i helped you!

    =]

  3. I usually let my new ferrets run around their play room for about an hour so they can sniff and smell everything, then I put them in their cage so they get used to it..

    Quoting someone else:

"They need baths like once or twices a month you can use ferret shampoo and conditioner or you can use dog shampoo and conditioner (thats what i use) they both work fine"

DO NOT BATHE THEM THAT MUCH. They can be bathed several times a year. Thats it, bathing them irritates their skin and causes excess oils to be produced, making them smellier.

"my ferrets like froot loops and craisons they are good treats for them"

Dont feed them people food or fruits or veggies, they are obligate carnivores and should only eat meat based products, or ideally only meat. Sugar is bad for them stay away from it!

  4. Give em a day or so to settle into their new surroundings. Here's some great research material on their care:

  5. When you first get your ferret, it's a good idea to leave it alone for 24 hours. It'll give the ferret time to adjust to its new environment and the cage. Then, you can start bringing the ferret out for play time after the ferret seems more comfortable with its new surroundings.

  6. i had one and only for about a day intell it getts use to it then u should let it loose in a room
