My old roommate moved out almost 10 months ago. He/she as far as I'm concerned, we are still friends. He/she left behind large pieces of furniture that take up an entire main level living area and a portion of the basement. Legally do I have a right to get rid of the old roommates belongings?

  1. IF you are friends, I would atleast give them AMPLE opportunity to get their things. Sounds like you have done that though, so I'd check your local laws just to C.Y.A. (cover YOUR a**) Good Luck!

  2. Look up the Connecticut Landlord and Tenant laws below

There is a legal process you have to go through to notify them, then dispose of the stuff. for "ABANDONMENT"

If you don't follow the process they can sue you for the loss. If you do follow the process, you are in the  clear.

    THIRTY DAYS!!!!

    *********

    (d) The landlord shall inventory any possessions and personal effects of the occupant in the premises and shall remove and keep them for not less than thirty days. The occupant may reclaim such possessions and personal effects from the landlord within said thirty-day period. If the occupant does not reclaim such possessions and personal effects by the end of said thirty-day period, the landlord may dispose of them as he deems appropriate.
