How long do you have to leave tapers in before you can put regular plugs in?

Because i want to get gauges and i dont want my mom to know about it. scince my hair is always up i cant just hide it with my hair. and tapers obviously dont look like regular earrings but plugs do as long as you dont get the tube kind. so i need to know how long you need to leave tapers in before you can put plugs in?

You're sposed to follow the plugs straight through with the taper. Tapers are just too bulky to wear...
