Question:

How long do you have to like in the UK before you become a resident?

I'm a citizen of the UK and the US but I have lived in the US my whole life. i want to go to university in the UK and my mom wants me to go live over there beforehand to establish residency so it will be cheaper. does anyone know how long i would have to live there?

  1. We are a bit full up at the moment perhaps you could try somewhere else less crowed: I hear that places like Poland, Nigeria, Romania are pretty empty and you would have a better chance of a place.

    What ever you do don't come to London or the South East  because we are prone to flooding with the weight of people the land is sinking and even the Thames Barrier can't help us now.

  3. I think your mom might be assuming that residency in a state in the US for cheaper college fees is the same in the UK. I am not aware that you have to establish residency to get cheaper college fees in the UK.

Just out of curiosity why does your mother think it will be cheaper if you establish residency first.  UK students going to university here are often forced to take out government loans to pay for their tuition, and many leave university with debts of over £30,000 which has to be paid back....life is not a bowl of roses for students in the UK if they don't have parents to bankroll them through uni'.
