I currently live in Memphis, TN- but, am moving for college. How long do I have to be in the new city to be considered a resident & pay in-state tuition, rather than out of state?

  1. Do some research and save big time. I spent 5 yrs living / working and going to school in Tempe Arizona and they never let me pay instate tuition.

  2. Different places have different rules.

  3. It is usually 6-12 months but it varies and some colleges would still not accept you as a resident if you are only living there to go to college.  Each college will tell you what it's rules are on this issue.  You just need to contact the individual colleges that you are considering and see where they stand.

    Good Luck.

  4. You can ask the college. Schools have different requirements.

  5. You would have to change over your driver's license and voter's registration card and such and register under your new address.  However, I do not know the time frame as far as obtaining in state tuition.

  6. 6-12 months it varies from state to state.
