  1. 6 months. Or you can trump up some charges and fire them, as seems to be popular these days.

  2. Depends on a certain companies policy. 6 months is the usual time, after that they will recieve smp at a percentage of there wages from the goverment. Every women is entitled to a year off now but only 9 months of it is paid leave. So they get 6 months from the employer, 3 months from the goverment. But that all depends on the company, some pay for the whole 9 months, some with only pay for a few weeks!

  3. 6 weeks full wages from the date they stop, then they get statutory maternity pay from the government, but they are now entitled to 1 year off and have to let you know a few weeks before hand when they are returning to work or not

  4. Statutory Maternity Pay is paid for a maximum period of 39 weeks. It is paid:

at 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings with no upper limit for the first six weeks; and

for the remaining 33 weeks at either the standard rate of £117.18 or 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings (if this 90 per cent rate is less than the standard rate).

Any contractual Maternity pay would have been agreed between you and the employee in their initial contract

As an Employer you claim this back from HMRC

  5. Between 6 and 12 months.

If they decide they don't want to return at all, THEY must give at least 4 weeks notice.
