My ex boyfriend stole three checks and cashed all three. I have given him more than enough time to pay me back. How long do I have to file a police report and press charges for these checks? It was just at one year ago.

  1. If you allowed your boyfriend time to "pay you back"  you changed what was once criminal into a civil issue.  You can't file a police report.  You basically forgave him for the theft and allowed him to attempt to pay you back.  If he hasn't paid you back, you can sue him in civil court.

  2. You can indeed file. Just because you talked about and he pretended to be willing to pay them back doesn't stop it. The offense is forgery, I suspect, since he no doubt signed your name to them. It probably iss too late for you to get your bank to restore the money, but you can still file the report. Don't expect an instant arrest in this sort of case.

  3. Wow you should told the bank right away. by not notifying the bank as soon as you found out implies consent. The bank could go after him for forgery  But since they arn't out antything why would they. your best bet is to go after him in small claims court. they might even award you up to 3X the amount

  4. as soon as you noticed their missing, there is not time limit  unless your involved in any way, playing dumb can put you right in the middle of the target , you can take him to the police now but your  long silence will look as though you were involved stop being a target grow up and nail him to a wall. take him to small claims court after you prove your case he will pay or go to gail

but if your a normal person when you get ripped off call, the cops right away he is a theif  do not feel sorry for him or think he will pay you back he just hopes you keep your yap shut but get the bum the cops will smoke him right to jail

report it as soon as you can and keep records of what went down and any suspicions you may have. very serious stuff indeed

  5. A year ago is a long time. The first question they will ask is how come you waited so long to report this. If you answer, well I thought he would pay me back, they will say well you knew he took them, why didn't you report it immediately. I don't think they will do anything.
