  1. Everyone’s experiences make them an expert in their own right - so what is right for one couple may not be appropriate for another. Most couples wait for the magical 6 week mark  and are dreadfully disappointed when that incredible pre birth s*x doesn’t happen.  The physical facts are that within six weeks of birthing, your uterus should be back to its pre-pregnancy weight and size. Breastfeeding assists in stimulating the hormones released around this function.   This is the reason that you are meant to have a six week check up and then are medically are ‘fit’ to commence intimate relations.  Ignored and unaddressed are the emotional and psychological changes that have occurred.

I have had 2 children, birthing them naturally. With the first one, I was so devastated, shocked and horrified at my experience and unprepared for the hormonal and bodily changes, that I was really uninterested for months afterwards - even though I did have s*x at  that 6 week mark - to please my husband. However, with the birth of my daughter, I was in a much better space, prepared and ready and was ready to go within a week.(we did wait an extra week after that - just to ensure I had healed properly) It all depends I guess, on your birth experience and the damage ( physically and mentally) that you have endured and the meanings you place upon those experiences in relation to  s*x. My advice is to keep an open and honest communication link with your partner and take things slowly – with little pressure – and connect again with yourself as a sensual being, before attempting to touch another.

  2. 6 week doc apt...I had a friend who only waited 3 weeks!! I waited much longer...much too tender to even consider it!

  3. 6 weeks and a check up at your doctor!

  4. 6 weeks and dr. approval.

  5. They recommend you wait at least 6 weeks.  After I had my first child (via c-section), I was given the OK at 4 weeks, but I don't listen and I didn't wait.  Same with my second.  I think we waited 3 weeks with both.

When you do decide to resume having s*x, take it slow.  It's probably going to hurt a little at first.

  6. I know that doctors say to wait until after your six week check up, but with my second and third babies, I had a really easy, normal deliveries(no stitches or abrasions, minimal swelling, very limited bleeding) and I only waited three weeks with no difficulties or discomfort.  With the first, I waited closer to 10 weeks because my body was saying No Way!!

    Listen to your body.

Edited to add: And use birth control!  You CAN get pregnant again right after having a baby, even if you are nursing fulltime.  I have the second baby to prove it.

  7. I'm assuming you're referring to intercourse? You can of course give each other massages, nude cuddling, giving him a good rub down (if you know what I mean) and having an o****m yourself is not off limits!  Be inventive and by the time the 6 weeks is over you'll be the one giving advice to posts like this.

  8. Its supposed to be 6 weeks.... but after my twins, we waited 4 weeks and after my last baby, 3 weeks.. LOL

  9. They usually recommend that you wait until after the doctor sees you for your 6 week check up.

  10. The Docs will say six weeks. But as long as you are feeling good and no longer have any pains I say go for it! If it doesn't hurt you really can't be doing any damage. But I would atleast wait untill you stopped bleeding just for the clean up factor (which took about 6 weeks for me)

  11. u are supposed to wait at least 6 weeks but some women need more or less time. with my first i had a very long and difficult birth with a messed up episiotomy. i didnt have s*x again until my daughter was 2 years i was so afraid and still tender. with my son i had a vaginal birth too but no tearing and i waited only 3 weeks. with my twins i had a c section and waited 3 weeks.

  12. I only waited 2 weeks with my 3rd child. You should be careful and listen to your body. You may also want to try using lubrication (it helps, trust me). Your uterus contracts when you have an o****m. The contracting will help your uterus shrink faster.
