How long do you have to wait before you get your driver's license after taking the test?

I'm hoping to get some good answers on here because this is very important to me so that I don't have to worry about the law.

Where I live, you go to the Dept. of Motor Vehicle (DMV), take the written test, take the driving test, and walk out with your license in hand.  I can't imagine it would be too different elsewhere.

six months.. after taking the permit test

like in the mail?? it matters up to a week or so...

I think you can get them after you take your test and pass it. Both the written and driver's test.
