You should get it right away if they didn't change the law. I heard something about marriage/green card in a conversation about three weeks ago.  During the conversation it came out that people that get married for a green card have to waite for two years before they issue it to them.

well after you marry you apply for ur green card.

and most likely pay a fine for being in the coutry illegal(if it applies to you)

then if you have all the proper documentation you should get it in about 2 months. after your interview with ins.

it will be a temporary license for 2 years. then after u years of having it and still married you apply for them to remove the temp and give you a permanent one.

I'm Puerto Rican, so i have a us citizenship by birth. My brother married a Guatemalan girl and she had to wait a year to get citizenship and SSN. if you just got married it will be better to wait a while before you apply for one. they see it as " well they just got married and know they are asking for a green card... something smells fishy here" kinda way.

After you get married you have to apply for your I-485 adjustment of status, I really don't know if this is considered a green card or not.  It takes about 180 days for that.
