how long do you keep a filter on for my tank is filled with 10L of water how long should i be keeping it on for i only have one little goldfish

  1. Keep your filter on all the time, it will help keep the water free of impurities. Make sure that you rinse the filter sponge out each time you do a water change (in the old fish water only, never under the tap) and replace it when you can't rinse it out anymore... after about 6-8weeks. Even with a filter you still need to do weekly partial water changes, so don't forget. (Sorry for all the extra advice, I've been working all day in an aquarium, force of habit)


  2. you need to leave it on 24/7

    and by that, you also need a bigger tank

    even that the goldfish might be small now, but most of them grow to be over a foot long

    so the bare minimum you need is a 20 us gallon/75 liters tank for just one single goldfish

  5. I keep my filter on all the time but I change the speed at which the filter is working at so that the fish get a variety of different tank conditions during the day and night.
