How long do you need to wear your retainer?

untill you can just wear it at night?

Both of my children had braces and were told they must wear their retainer at night for the rest of their lives or the teeth will begin to shift and move. So far both still wear theirs and their teeth are still in perfect alignment.

Before that they wore the retainer per orthodontist instructions.

I would wear it as the orthodontist prescribes.  Typically after about 6 months, you will be instructed to wear it just at night.  But it depends on your specific situation.

i wear a retainer.

i am supposed to wear it at least 12 hours a day, when i got to bed and when i work out, which is probably a little over 12 hours
