I'm a tattoo artist/piercing tech and i just ordered a taper set. A taper set is a set of pins with different gauges on each end of the pin. One end is larger than the other in order to stretch the hole. My question is do you slide the pin periodicly until the desired gauge size is met? and do you just insert the jewelry afterwards or is there some way to insert it in while the pin is in? i need to know. lol.

  1. if your a piercing tech shouldnt you know this? :s /maybe there is a class to take to update your skills for all the new things people are wanting done.

  2. You buy the taper thats one side larger than the size you have. You then slide the whole taper through and put the jewelry at the tail and slide it in. Do not leave the taper in. The material tapers are made out of release an enzyme which can cause infection.

  3. It depends how big the gauge is that you are stretching to. I found it easy to just slide them right threw when I was going to 14g,12g, and 10g. 8g hurt a little more so I went slower. When you get to the bigger sizes you might want to go even slower if it's painful.

You just slide the plug in right after you pull the taper all the way through.

  4. As in when a costumer comes in asking you to gauge their ears for them?

Or for personal use? More details, please. =]]
