How long do you think it will take for me to get my package via UPS?

I ordered something from CVS online and it shipped today...here is the tracking info...

Origin Scan 9:11pm 4.10.2008

Departure Scan - Indianapolis, IN, US 10:28pm 4.10.2008

I am asuming that time is IN time because right now the date/time where I live is 4.10.2008 10:06pm. Anyway, I live in Tujunga, CA...when do you think my package will arrive? I am hoping it is on a day we are going to be home...as long as it arrives before Thursday 4.17.08 we will be okay. One of us will be home tomorrow, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so I'm hoping it will arrive by Wednesday. Is there anyway of knowing?

I had no idea where to put this question...sorry...

  1. Was it shipped gorund? My company ships items to me UPS ground from New Jersey to California 4-5days!

  2. To track a UPS package, go to http://www.ups.com and then to Tracking. You will need a tracking number. Do you have it? It should be on the receipt if you yourself took the package in to ship. However, if you ordered it online, do you have an order number that you printed? If so, call CVS, give them the order number, and see if they can look it up to get the tracking number.

Once  you have that, you can just key it into the UPS site, and then keep checking back with them. You'll be able to see where your package is en route, as it is scanned in at various intermediate steps - into the UPS tracking system, which is very reliable.

Now - if you are back in Tijunga, CA now, waiting for your package, you can always go into a local UPS sending place there, and look at the map on the wall. I am assuming you ordered the package shipped UPS ground, though next-day, 2-day, and sometimes 3-day air shipment is available, but for higher costs.

The map on the wall will be of the contiguous U.S., with various 1-day, 2-day, 3-day etc. areas outlined and numbered--corresponding to the approximate shipping time from your Tijunga location. Assuming no special adverse weather conditions (in which case, who knows?), look outward from Tijunga, calculate the number of days it would take your package to arrive if going from Tijunga-->Indianapolis, and then do the math on elapsed time for the reverse trip.

I live in suburban Chicago, about four hours' drive from Indianapolis--when I ship to Burbank, CA, which is near Tijunga, I believe--it's about 5 full working days for ground shipment. Does someone have to be home to sign for this shipment, or do you expect the UPS truck just to leave it?

Incidentally, it's my understanding that normal UPS shipments are insured automatically for $100, but that the shipper can pay more to get extra insurance. Again, depending on what you're shipping, and what value you declare.

I once got reimbursed for knitting needles and yarn that didn't make it from Chicago-suburbs to Galena, about a 3-hour drive. I had to submit a receipt for both needles and yarn to prove their value. But the system worked.
