On a Muay Thai group class in a gym with a ring. Like, Saturday nights. Once a week; four times a month.

How long do you think it will take him to advance to the next belt level (He's currently, just starting)?

He's an 18 year old college student, about 5'7'' in height and weighs 69 Kilos with a regular athletic body (not too super macho).

  1. Once a week is better than nothing. And he may want to lay off punching those concrete walls. That can't be good for the joints.

  2. only going once a week it will take some time and for him to master anything it will take more than just once a week if he is into this because he wants to fight competitivly then he needs to pickup the pace but if he is in it just for self defence then that is good but they can forget about the whole mastering the strikeing of muay thai

  3. He will naturally become more involved as his skills progress, or won't due to a lack of conviction.

  4. I'm a Thai Boxer and I train daily and I've seen or heard of anyone train once a week. It will take that guy a year just to get to used to all the basics. Muay Thai isn't just striking with elbows, knees, shins. and fists, there r physics behind them. Muay Thai is fundamental meaning it can only be done in only one way. He wont be an addiment fighter until hes like 25. An addiment fighter is someone who can go around the world and fight without any problems. One martial art takes most most of a humans lifetime to master. For this guy, he'll never be a master if he keeps this up.

  5. its gonna take a while going just once a day? It takes people months to get good and years to become a master... If he really wants to be good he should train while hes at home too and work on flexibility and anaerobic exercises.

  6. It can take a lifetime to MASTER any martial art! It depends on how much effort he puts into it. Though, Once a week might be a little too less!

  7. Normally people attend Muay Thai classes 2 to 4 times a week and it would take 2 months to make the yellow belt.  But to "master" I guess you mean make black belt it would take about 2 years going 2 to 4 times a week.
