  1. Hollister, I could go on a cruise and happily stay on the ship throughout the entire cruise. I do get off and look around but just to see what there is to see, and maybe do a little shopping, particularly the liquor shops in Nassau.

  2. The amout of time you spend on a ship differs with the schedule or itinerary of your cruise.  Let's say the cruise leaves at 5pm(most leave between 4 and 6pm), you will be on the ship between 3-3:30pm.

Obviously, on the sea days you'll be on the ship for the entire time.

When you go into port, your ininerary will tell you when you are arrving at that port, and they will USUALLY let you off around a half an hour-an hour after that time. for instance, if you the boat arrives at 7, they will most likey let you off around 8ish.  Sometimes, you will have to be tendered to a port, which means they will take you from your cruise ship, onto a much smaller ship to the island or port of call.

When returning to your cruise ship after being at the port of call, they want you to be ON the ship about a half an hour before they are planned to leave. That means if your ship leaves a port at 5pm, don't do there later than 4:30, because the doors WILL close; the cruise leaves for no one, with the exception of an excursion through the cruise line. With the tenders, they will give you a time which is the LAST TENDER that it leaving the port of call. If your ship is leaving at 5 from the port of call, the last tender will most likely be at 4:30. DO NOT MISS THAT TENDER because as I said, the cruise waits for no one.

On the last day of your cruise, you will only be on for a couple of hours(except when you're sleeping). You eat breakfast, and then meet on the ship somewhere depending on your luggage tag color, andwait to be called off the ship. If the cruise gets into the port at 7am, usually they start letting you off around 8:30-9, but it all depends on if there's a delay of some sort.

  3. The amount of time that you spend on ship will depend upon the cruise itinerary.  Most cruises, like those going to the Bahamas,  typically leave the departure port about 5:00 or 6:00 PM  and cruise all night and arrive at the first cruise port stop between 7:00 and 9:00 AM the next morning.  BUT, some cruises like those from the East coast to Bermuda, require more time and so instead of arriving at the first port the next morning, you may spend all of the next day "at sea" and arrive the following morning.   AND, there are some cruises where there may be two full days "at sea" before you arrive at a port.  AND, I am going on a cruise from Calif to Hawaii and back and we will spend 4 full days "at sea" each way.

Then after the first port stop there is generally a port stop each day and the ship generally docks between 7 and 9:00 AM and departs for the next stop about 6 or 7:00PM.

When you get to a port you are free to get off and on as much as you want; just be sure the be back about 30 minutes before the ship is supposed to depart.

  4. They generally try to throw you off everyday which really sucks.  Try to get an "at sea" for at least 2 days our of the trip.  The ship is the best part. Otherwise you spend half your time getting on and off a ship and dumped in a tourist shopping ghetto.

  5. You "can" stay on ship as long as you like and there is always something to do.  However, if you want to go site seeing, then you get off when they stop at the ports.  Go to your ships' website and it will tell you how many stops they are making and within that web site, how long you can be off before it leaves port.

  6. it'll depend on the cruise's agenda. Each cruise has a different agenda (schedule) so I can't really say how long you would stay on the boat.

  7. There is a schedule for each ship.

Which one are you going on?

You can check online for the the time in which the ship arrives to its destination and leaves.

I'm going on Norwegian Spirit to the bahamas in a week, and you stay on the boat most of the time, for 6 days.

I can go off the boat for about 25 hours in total.

    Have fun on your cruise!
