How long do your teeth hurt after your braces are tightened?

I got them tightened yesterday and took an advil right after and felt nothing. Today they are hurting all of a sudden!

they will only hurt about 2 days =] the pain will go away soon enough dont worry, and to lessen the pain, eat soft foods

it depends on how much they did at the appointment. if they moved on to a much stronger wire, put on new brackets, or rearranged brackets it will be around 3-4 days. if they didnt make any dramatic changes it could be around 2-3 days.  try not to agitate your teeth by eating anything too hard for a couple days and keep taking that advil :)

Braces hurt when they're tightened because your gums "grip" the roots of your teeth.

In order for your teeth to be moved into proper alignment, this "grip" must be temporarily broken by tightening the braces.

Breaking this "grip" causes inflammation and pain.  After the teeth have moved, the gums again start to tighten over the tooth root and the inflammation and pain goes away.

This can take 1-3 days, depending on how dramatic the tightening was.  After several months/years on braces (depending on how misaligned your teeth are), the teeth will not need to be moved as far and tightening will hurt less every time.

You probably felt nothing until today because the grip on your tooth root didn't begin to break until today.  Or perhaps the Advil worked very well!

After getting my braces tightened I experienced moments in the days following the procedure where they would not hurt and then hurt. It usually stops after a few days when your mouth gets used to it.

About three days in total.  On the third day, your teeth will just be a little sensitive when you eat especially hard foods.  Hang in there!

well it's been awhile since i had braces but i don't remeber it lasting more than a few days
