Whitening toothpastes don't actually whiten your teeth. They don't have a whitening ingredient (such as Carbimide Peroxide) merely have abrasive's that scratch the enamel surface removing staining on the outer enamel not bleaching the actual color of the enamel. Think of it as if you were shampooing your carpet to get stains out... it won't get any lighter than the original color of carpet you had, unless you bleach the carpet white (whiter than the color you originally had.)
