How long does External Verification Take?

Hi all, I enquired from a Visa officer who process my Visa application , He said " I am only waiting for for external verification" I am not too sure how long would the external verification would take? I have provided 4 documents! has anyone experienced this before? if so, how lond did took him to get back to you?

It depends on what they are waiting on verification on. If it's a background check because your name is similar to one in the FB watch list, then it could be a year or two.
