Am planning to go to the Bahamas Next week. If Tropical Storm Hanna Hits, how many days would likely be rain outs? I'm staying at the Atlantis so I'm not worried about physical damage. Obviously if it looks like it is going to hit on arrival or departure, then I'm not going.

  1. meteorologist are saying that hanna will go to the bahamas in 5 days

  2. It depends on the size and speed of the storm.  A slow moving storm like Fay can last a few days.  A fast moving, smaller storm might be done in 24 hours.

Figure on two days of bad weather, at least, and other problems (like loss of power, water, and possible difficulty getting food).  If the airport is damaged, then you might not be able to leave until they fix it.

  3. Typically for a specific location a hurricane will take about 12 to 18 hours to pass by, with the worst conditions lasting no more than a few hours.  Obviously the hurricane's forward speed is important, thus that time is a generalization, based on the size and speed of an average hurricane.

  4. Very tough to predict!  Look how many times Florida was hit from the very confused Fay!

Just know that you usually have VERY good weather once it leaves the area!!!

Follow the forecast models on www.accuweather.com  They are usually pretty accurate!

  5. The worst part of a hurricane USUALLY comes and goes within a 24 hour period - but there is no rule.  A location in the path of an oncoming hurricane could be in for rain days before and days after the storm.  Sometimes though, after the storm passes you can have an extended period of no rain.
