Question:

How long does a landlord have to fix problems in apartment?

I live in federally funded housing (low income housing) and I wrote a note on June 28th about the back patio doors having rotted wood, as well as rain coming into my apartment, my back door won't lock from the outside it's broken, and my tub's drain plug is broken. How long do they have to fix this stuff?

I talked to the maintenance guy three days ago and he said that he'd put me on his list. But I saw him working on two other people's apartments this last week.

HELP!

  1. Well, low income housing is different than the other types of apartments. You shouldn't wait too long, but if there really is a list, you're probably on it and have to wait. Next time you see the maintenance guy, ask him when you can expect your place to be fixed and how many people are ahead of you on the list (it can be a pretty long one, too, so expect that to be the case). There isn't much you can other than that since it pretty much belongs to the government and they decide a lot of stuff that either helps you or doesn't help you. If you know a number you can call to get through the fed gov then get it and call. Ask questions. It's low income housing, don't expect miracles.

  2. Depends legaly they are suppused to within 7 days of the complaint I have waited longer though!
