I spotted the roof of the mobile police speed camera van as I came over the hill and hit the breaks quickly. Does the camera take a reading of your speed instantly or does it need to track you over a second or two or a certain distance?

  1. it tracks you instantly. sometimes they pull you over or they will scan your number plate and send a fine to the address the car is registered to i think.

  2. Your average speed over a certain distance is

recorded, it maybe something like 200 yards.

You cannot be prosecuted over a short distance

    ie 35 yards or so.

there could be a legitimate reason for speeding over

    a short distance.

(accelerating to avoid a hazardous situation)

  3. It tracks ur speed right away as soon as the cop thinks ur goin fast he will point the camera at you if ur over the speed limit he will pull u over if he cares.

  4. Usally they track you over a certain distance, but there if you was just goin over the speed limit when u approached the van then its more than likely your fine cus say u were goin at 33mph the camera always detects the speed your goin a bit less so it will prob come up as 30mph.if u was goin over 35mph then theres a possibility u mite b fined.Ive been in a similar situation before but got away with it.
