How long does a puppy's first season last for?

I have a six month old pug puppy who is in season for the first time. We first noticed blood-spots 5 weeks ago, and she is still bleeding (although the discharge seems more watered-down now) and swollen.

We plan on getting her spayed, but the vet wouldn't do it until she was 6 months old, she was 5 months when her season started. We know that we need to leave it for a couple of months before getting her done.

  1. Depending on the breed and the dog itself her season will last for 21-28 days.

  2. Depending on what sort of dog you have it normally last around 21 days i know mine did but she was still swollen a few weeks after that make sure you keep track of the dates then at about 6 weeks after she should be ok to get spayed.you can look it up on here type in the kennel club and breed of dog and it will provide you all the info you need

  3. 1 month?

  4. Your puppy should not still be bleeding after 5 weeks. A season usually lasts 3, sometimes 4 although 1st seasons are often different.

If she were mine I'd take her to the vet just to check that she hasn't got an infection.

  5. It does depend on the dog.....but it really isnt a nice process at all.

  6. Female dogs go through a heat cycle, called estrus, every six months. She will have proestrus, or a bleeding cycle, before her true heat cycle during which she is very receptive to the advances of male dogs. This heat cycle lasts for several days up to three or four weeks.
