  1. If its a rotax engine it will last far longer than that, and they are relatively cheap to fix or replace if they do break.

Im a pilot and I know that some people use the same rotax engines in Ultralight aircraft (factory built as well as home built), and they last a great deal of time before overhauls, usually anywhere from 200 to 500 hours. Yours should last longer because its not held to the same standards. As long as you keep up on basic maintenance and change the spark plugs frequently to keep it running smoothly and reduce harmful carbon buildup from incomplete burning, they are only about $3 a pair, so dont skimp.

  2. with a little bit of care and maintenance, there's no upper limit on the service life of a 2-stroke marine engine.

these motors don't typically wear out -- they are killed by careless owners.

    Forget the oil.

Keep choking it to make it run instead of rebuilding your carb.

    Ignore the overtemp warning.

Let it sit around idle for 6 or 8 months.

Neglect to change the water pump (engine cooling pump).

Crank it up & let it run on the trailer without supplying water.
