My husband and I have been waiting for our adotion agency to call us with some news on the adoption. It has been only 5 months since all the paper work and home study are completed. I guess this is for other adoptive parent how long did you have to wait for a child? What did you do to keep your mind off the wait?

  1. anywhere from 7 months to a year

  2. If i remember right, we were told it could take up to a year.

3 months for the first adoption.

2002 to 2007 with 1yr off for pregnancy for the second adoption.

  3. It partially depends upon how specific you were in your requests.  Do you want a specific s*x, age, race?

  4. It depends on many things, esp how "specific" your wants are. If you said you wanted BP that physically matched you and your husband, it could be years.

Every time you say "non smoking", "non drinking", "no drugs", "downs screened", "Caucasian", etc the wait gets that much longer..

Then there is the portfolio.. Have they shown it to any BPs? Has there been any feedback on it?

It will happen.. and waiting does suck.

  5. We were contacted by a pregnant woman 4 mo after our home study was complete. Two weeks later we were parents. Our daughter is now 2.5 and one couple that took adoption classes with us is still waiting. So there is a huge range. Being open to many types of situations helps since your profile may be presented to more  women. Also we paid to place our profile on a few websites, and that is how we were contacted.

  6. It took us 2 years to adopt our son.  We had one failed match during that time- ouch.  When we adopted a second time it only took 6 weeks and we received our daughter.  We were the same people, had a very similar profile to the one we used when adopting our son, and were using the same agency.  It is just a matter of a match being made.

  7. the only answer is " it varies"

We took only seven months from our first contact with our son's mother to placement, and pushed through all the paperwork and homestudy in that time.  One of the couples in our "adoption education" class had been on the waiting list for seven years, and was renewing their homestudy again.
