  1. Both games have "quick play" modes in the manuals. Read up on them (or if you don't have the manual then google it and you can easily find the rules). I find them less fun but if it's quick your looking for its a wise choice. But I would say a game of monopoly with no loser quitters takes about 2 hours, and risk can take up to 3 easily. (I've been up to 3 in the morning with some friends..haha)

  2. Monopoly took about 1 1/2 hours everytime, but it depends on how many people are playing..

  3. Like 2 1/2 hours but if you play monopoly by the rules it can end fast

  4. If you are still playing these two games, you may be missing out on the board game experience. Risk is not balanced, Monopoly relies on too much luck. In addition to earlier suggestions, try going to boardgamegeek to get reviews, consider Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, Caylis, Power Grid, or Goa to name a few. Most of these games have equal starting positions with restricted resources and/or restricted number of moves.

  5. While it depends on how many people are playing, I have found that a 4 person monopoly game takes 2-3 hours, while a 5 person risk game takes 6-9 hours.

  6. it depends how many people are playing

  7. way too long

here's a tip don't worry about it and just don't even try to finish, it will end up getting way too long and boring

  8. If you play with the official rules, Monopoly shouldn't take more than 90 minutes for a 4 player game. If you start adding house rules like winning $ for landing on free parking, the game can go on indefinitely.

If you're playing Risk, you're looking at at least 2-3 hours.

There are alternatives.. Instead of Monopoly, try Settlers Of Catan http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/13. It has a lot of the same trading aspects, there is still some luck due to rolling dice, but  a 4 player game takes about an hour once you know how to play.

Instead of Risk, try Shogun  http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/20551 is a great alternative. It lasts only 8 rounds, so you know exactly when the game will end. Plus it has a cool combat system: instead of rolling dice, you drop both sets of armies (wooden cubes) in a tower. Some of the cubes get stuck in the tower, and whoever has the most cubes come out the bottom of the tower wins the battle.
