How long does an insurance claim take?

I crashed my car just over a week ago the car has been taken away and all the documents have been sent off how long do I expect to have to wait? And do they send you the settlement figure through the post or by phone?

Also if they decide to fix the car (They say it will probably be written off) Do I get the car back or do they just sell it on after giving me the settlement for it?

  1. it depends on what insurance you have  fully comprehensive /3rd party / if its fully comp you wont wait as long  they will make you a offer on the value of the car  by post (market value) based on the age of the car . once you agree to this the car will be sold on as it then belongs to the insurance company  but you can ask to be given first refusal on the vechile it you think its worth  fixing up .

  2. It depends really, I wrote my car off last year and the insurance paid me for the car within two weeks. But the final liability settlement took 10 months. If they do write it off they will dispose of it unless you want to buy it back, you need to ask them this.
