  1. The investigator does not determine when and if an indictment or warrant is issued.

    That is up to the DA or Prosecutors office.

    Statute of limitations on a misdemeanor is 2 years, felonies 5 to 10 years, meaning that the case must be indicted within that time period.


  2. Investigators don't get indictments, the DA's Office does. Depends on the statute of limitations for each crime.

  3. Depends on the state and the crime. In my state there is no limitations period, meaning you could get indicted for a crime occurring 50 years ago. In other states there may be a limitations period that usually applies to all but the most serious offenses.
