  1. it may take days depending on how much un used material is taking up space also if it is the first time you have dfragmented you computer it will take so long depending on how long you have had the computer

and how much information the com is processing but after the first time you defragment set up a time each week to defragment your com it will not take as long

  2. My guess is that you have a process running that's preventing the defrag from finishing.  Try using ctrl/alt/del to open up your task manager.  Close all programs and make sure you don't have any programs open that are started on startup but hidden.  This should do it.

  3. It depends on many things...the amount of time since last defrag, the size of the drive, the amount of ram memory you have, the speed of the processor, the operating system you are using, the amount of data vs programs on the drive.  the answer to your question isn't an exact science.  I have seen them run for over 24 hours (on large drives).

  4. no if you had alot of flies created in last month then it may take a time so you should be good with in few hours. you can pause or cancell it and resume it later if you wish

  5. it takes alot.  it just depends on how much you have on your comp to defragmant.  my suggestion would be to stop the defragment adn wait till y our about to go to bed and leave it on all night,  it should be dont by morning

  6. A Disk defragment is to arrange your files. I would say it is unusual for it to take this long after having it for a month. Try to use a programme called "Ultimate Defrag" I use this and it gives you a very detailed pie chart of what it needs to do, how many files, how long it will take. It even shows you the files moving.

This has been advertised as the best defrag. Plus it is free. Google it.

Defrag usually takes around 30 minutes to 9 hours. (9 hours is usually if you havent done it in about 7-12 months)

    Hope this helps.

  7. Quit using windows disk defragmenter and use Auslogics disk defragmenter takes 45mins at the most for a 144gb HD if its bigger it takes longer good luck

  8. If you are using the Windows utility, it often hangs up. Cancel and use some other defrag utility

  9. It should not take that long. I would stop the process, restart my computer, and try again. Also, do you have a good virus protection on your computer? You may need to check for bugs.

  10. Wow that is a really long time..........you have only had it a month it should not take that long. Maybe you should have it looked at. Normally I defragment every month and it doesnt take long at all.

  11. Hi,

The time for a defrag depends on a number of variables and is difficult to predict in advance. The Windows defragmenter in general is quite slow, and it runs as a low-priority process in Vista. It is possible that some program/process is making use of the CPU or disk, thus frequently interrupting/pausing the defragmenter

If you don't want to  waste time defragmenting, you can try Diskeeper 2008 with InvisiTasking capability that  defrags automatically in the background while you work without interrupting your work. Diskeeper is fully automatic and does not need your attention once it is installed and the automatic defrag mode is turned on.
