How long does heroin stay in your bloodstream?

My best friend (not being sarcastic) has a heroin addiction. She has been doing it reguarly for a few months and on and off for five or six. She has to get blood drawn tomorrow and she hasn't done it since yesterday (she snorts..not injects) and is wondering if by tomorrow the doctor will be able to tell. We are working hard to try and help her get over her addiction since she is getting her jaw wired shut in three days..but with an addiction its not going to be easy. Any advice? Also she is getting blood drawn for her surgery so they wont be looking for it so can they still tell? And if so, what should she do?

If they aren't testing for heroin they won't find it. Pre-surgery testing is for blood type and matching. She needs to tell the surgeon about the addiction. If she has heroin in her blood stream she could have an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. 3 days is not enough time to clear her system out before the surgery or to get over the addiction.

It is critically important that the anesthesiologist be aware that your friend is a heroin addict.   Her body will not respond to the anesthesia the same way as a normal person.  This could cause her to wake up during the surgery, feel a lot of pain, or other very bad things.

Heroin addiction can be very serious. Many people have lost jobs, homes, friends, and loved ones because they could not tame thier heroin habit. I suggest you seek some help.
