  1. There are adjustment that have to be made to the metering rods that if not correct it will run bad>

  2. Good luck. I took classes on these carbs when they were just coming out. First thing to look at is the fuel plate shaft. If that bushing is worn, it must be replaced or the rebuild will not hold. Period. A competent machine shop may be able to replace these, and you can also obtain a full set from various suppliers. These people will do it for you:

"We can re-bush your Quadrajet carburetor primary throttle shaft for you for $65.00 plus shipping.  We normally have a 2-3 day turn around. "

Also, get the best quality kit you can find, and take your time. The secondary metering rod settings are very important for maximum fuel mileage. some factory carbs had brass rods. What you want is stainless steel rods.

    Good luck!

  3. maybe a hour... after its off... lay it all out on a table or bench... in some kind of order .... not adjusting any set screws like air and fuel flow..few screws out of the top move linkage pull apart.. just replacing a few parts is not so hard mostly gaskets

  4. those quads! i overhauled alot of those. it,s not really hard, just take your time. when you buy a kit, there is a paper in the box that tells you where every piece goes and how to set the float and the rest of the settings.

  5. All day since this is your 1st time.

  6. Whenever i take apart quadracarbs i like to do it one at a time storing the parts in four different containers righting down how many times i rotate the s***w driver to take a s***w out in this way it allows you to put parts back in there in the proper spots. Things to remember CLEAN IT use carb cleaner and some pressurized air and clean it out. also check the hoses alot of times on those types of carbs the hose will partially break. Some tools that would help is a hand torque wrench one that requires a hammer those screws are not easy to remove let me tell you unless of course it wasnt used all that much then it could be easier.
