Question:

How long does it actually take I'm so uncomfortable!?

I had my membranes stripped yesterday and I have been having really bad contractions here and there but not close enough together and not enough to have me double over in pain. I'm wondering how long it takes after they are stripped for it to put me in active labor? Currently I am 4cent. dilated 75% effaced and -2. This is my 4th baby. Any advice would be helpful!

  1. i am surprised you havent had baby yet...it shouldnt be long

  2. Wow your close. Its not going to take you no time to deliver that baby. I would wait until either your water broke or your contractions are 5 mins apart. Good luck on your fourth. I'm trying for my fourth now. Con grads

  3. It really just depends. Your baby may not have dropped yet, which is the reason I didn't go into labor on my own with my second son.

Sometimes, stripping your membranes doesn't even set you into labor. My dr has told me in the past it's a 50/50 chance that it will work, so I don't even do it.

Good luck, if you are 4 cm, you really don't have long to go before you are in active labor. Try going on a walk or going up and down stairs. That may help get you into active labor and to bring your contractions closer together.

  4. You're close, but the baby is still relatively high to really put a lot of pressure on your cervix to dilate more.  Membrane stripping only irritates the cervix which often causes more dilation, but not always.  Sometimes it just irritates it and causes cramps and that's it.  Walk, walk, walk!!!  You won't be able to dilate anymore than 4 without being 100% effaced, so you'll have to finish effacing first before you can even dilate anymore.  I think it'll be a couple more days yet.

  5. my friend was 5 days

  6. It can take a day or two, it just depends on your body.  Best of luck!

  7. WOW! Well, with my first I had my midwife strip me and I had her 2 weeks later..lol, sorry that's probally not what you want to hear. But actually, my friend who just had a baby 2 days ago was 4 cm dialated when her midwife striped her and then she went to the hospital at 9:30 that same day! So I guess it vares? Good luck:)

  8. Isnt 4cm counted as active labour? You could be in labour but just handling it better, i handled it really well for the first 5-6cm.

  9. When I had my membranes stripped when i was pregnant, it didn't work for me at all. I was a week late so i was doing everything possible! Walking, s*x, and even some of those crazy wives tales. But what worked for me was the castor oil. Crazy and gross , i know but it worked for me. I had my daughter the day after I took the castor oil. My daughter came out perfectly normal.
