How long does it generally take for an employer to sponser you to stay in australia?

i have a friend who may have to come home in 4 weeks if his employer can't fix the visa problem..is this fixable in this time? does it cost anything to do it also?

Really depends on what the hold up is. Paperwork for the sponsored employer or the Immigration side of things.  There is no time frame as Immigration gets 1000's of applications, just depends on when they get to it.
