How long does it take Carnival Cruiselines?

We are going on another cruise in April 2009, and we chose to book without a room assignment. How long does it usually take Carnival to assign you a room? Do they ever upgrade you to a balcony room?

Hard to say, there are so many variables.  Sometimes they don't assign your cabin until you check in, but they might have an assignment when they send you your documentation.  If you have a booking number, you can check on line at their website and it should tell you if the cabin has been assigned.  

They supposedly give upgrades mainly within a cabin category [inside to inside, etc], but you never know....

best check with the cruise lines...we always have a forward suite so, I dont know about the other amenities....

The last time I reserved a guaranteed cabin with Carnival, we didn't get our assignment until we got to the port. It was still a very good cabin. They save most of the upgrades for repeat customers and if you book an inside or outside the chances you'll get a balcony are almost nil.
