  1. Poor thing.  Aveno baths are the best for poison Ivy then what Miss Stinky suggested calamine lotion.  You can get Aveno oatmeal and Calamine  lotion at the drugstore.

Just think about Matty every time you want to scratch so it takes your mind off.

That would be horrible if a driver had poison ivy.  Could you imagine how awful that wold be driving for 4 hours in a suit with poison ivy.

  2. I would say anywhere from a week or two. Put some calamine lotion on it.

  3. I've never had poison ivy in all my long years running around in the woods from Pennsylvania to Florida. Maybe I'm just lucky. Anyhow, WebMD says,

"Most poison ivy, oak, or sumac rashes can be treated successfully at home. Initial treatment consists of washing the area with water immediately after contact with the plants. To relieve symptoms, use wet compresses and take cool baths. Nonprescription antihistamines and calamine lotion also may help relieve symptoms. Moderate or severe cases of the rash may require treatment by a doctor, who may prescribe corticosteroid pills, creams, ointments, or shots (injections)."

Or what everyone has said so far: calamine lotion!

  4. we dont have poision ivy here in fl keys but i get stung by jelly fish which are real bad (when they are in season) so you may take a salt bath cold with cold compress and others things people wrote that are good here to.

jelly fish stings (moon jellies) itch and leave red on skin to, not fun at all. hope you get better--

  5. I looked it up anywhere from 5 to 14 days, depends on how bad and how much you itch. So stop itching, but keep smiling :D oh and do as Tom says lots and lots of lotion.

Oh Jessi that looks like it hurts, how the heck did you get it anyways?

  6. Lots of good info here. Just wanted to add that Lye, as Tom P suggested is great for Poison Ivy. It helps it dry up and not spread. Hope you don't suffer to bad with it girl.

  7. Wow, looks uncomfortable.

I have had good luck with a Kosher Soap called Rokeach.

It should be in either the laundry section, or Kosher section of the supermarket.

Wash the infected area at least 4-5 times a day. Or as it starts itching.

The lye in the kosher salt kills the irritant that makes it itch and swell.

    Good luck.

  8. Yea, about 2 weeks and calamine lotion is "highly recommended" as mentioned above. The main thing you want to avoid doing is scratching it...!!! That only spreads it and makes it worse. Calamine lotion helps prevent the spreading (and itching).

Also do not scratch it and then rub your eyes. You will be unpleasant with it in your eyes. Wash your hands before you rub your eyes.

  9. CalaDRYL lotion is actually better than calamine, and it's not pink. It contains the ingredients in Benadryl, so it's very good for the itch.

Also, take a clean white sock and pour some plain uncooked oatmeal in it. Get it wet and gently pat your rash. This will sooth it, and help it dry up. You can also hang the sock under the spigot of your bathtub and run your bathwater over it, so you have the oatmeal water in  your tub. Same effect as Aveeno Oatmeal Bath, but lot's cheaper.
