How long does it take a cashier check to be cleared into my an account at J P Morgan Chase bank?

A cashiers check should be treated as cash...in fact it even says on it to do so..but from an experience

this is not always the case,as I once waited weeks until I finally contacted the bank manager who cleared it immediately !

I am suspicious since it was quite a sum and perhaps they held it for their own interest purposes,...On the back of the check there should be a reference number in which they can call or fax the issuing bank for confirmation....!
