How long does it take a credit card to be active if you apply and are approved the same day?

I really have an important bill today and I am out of options I tried them all and I need money to pay these two bills quickly. I'm very good at paying back everything I just ran into a tough time this month and I have no family to help me as they have their own bills.

I promised myself I would never get a credit card but unfortunately I have to. Since this will be my only one I've heard that it will actually help my credit by having this revolving line, is this true. I honestly only see myself using it this one time but by having it open and having the amount I'm using for being paid off in time. After it's paid off I may just keep it open to look good. Is that a good choice?

  1. The credit card is good once you have received it an activated it.  However, you won't get the credit card the same day that its approved.

If these bills are going to be late while everything else has been on time, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  I would just call the creditor and explain that you cannot pay them now.  If you let them know when they will get their money, I think they may waive any possible late fees.  Whatever happens, don't make any promises that you can't keep.
