The train was going to a station, but not stoping so im assuming that it would be going slower then usual. If it got an emergency phone call that said to stop about how long ( minutes & feet) would it take to stop from the minute that the train driver started to stop?

thats basicly the only information I have, im trying to figure something that happened at my local train station

  1. it takes a train about 1 mile to stop going 60 mph. hope it helped

  2. It depends on the type of train, its weight and track conditions.

  3. The estimated speed is essential to know

But lets say at 30 mph, if the engineer used a full emergency brake application, a bit under a quarter mile, maybe 30 seconds from the application to a full stop.

At 60 MPH a passenger train will take about half a mile, 45 seconds perhpas.

Hard to say for sure, also helps to know if the train is going uphill or down.

Passenger trains stop much much faster than freight trains.
