How long does it take an ear piercing hole to grow back?

I have my ear lobes pierced and i always forget to wear earrings and i'm wondering how long does it take for the hole to grow back?

i dont think if will if its completely healed. my mom went a couple years without wearing any earings and her hole is still there.
