How long does it take before birth control becomes effective?

ive heard it doesnt protect you until after you have been on it for 3 months...

is there any that work right away? or like alot shorter than 3 months?

  1. Most hormonal contraceptives are fully effective once you have taken an active pill each day for at least seven days in a row.  Many American doctors will tell you to wait a whole cycle, or even three months, but that's just because they don't want to get sued if you get pregnant.

I'm pretty sure its effective after the first week, your body is just adjusting to it for the first three months that's when you're most likely to experience side effects of the pill, but if you read the little packet thingy that comes with it, (you can just scan it) you'll see that it takes a full week before its effective and you should use extra protection that week, (you probably should the rest of the month too unless you're married) but after the first week it should be fully effective and you don't have to use the extra protection.  

  4. Well most doctors tell you it doesnt go in affect for one month. And No there is nothing that goes in affect you right away
