How long does it take before you can speak again after a tonsillectomy?

If i have a tonsillectomy on Tuesday will I be able to speak by Saturday?

  1. I did a tonsillectomy 4 days ago well..first day u cannot talk at all but after the first day you'll be able to talk but it will be really painful... anyway i think that you should wait, talking before full recovery can make the time needed for recovery longer..

  2. If you mean talk to someone, yes, I'd think so. Actually you most likely will be able to speak right away. Tonsils are way up at the top of your throat/back of the mouth. Vocal cords are way down in your throat. Really nowhere near each other.

    If you mean stand up before a crowd and do a presentation aka speech. I'd think that might be pushing it. But more because you'd get a sore throat and tired, not because you wouldn't be able to talk.


  3. My sister had a tonsillectomy 17 years ago and I haven't heard a word from her since. (Mind you I did emigrate to Austarlia at the time of the op).
