How long does it take (by train) to get from NYC to Sacremento?

I need this for a book I am writing...so does anyone know??

  1. No matter what other people say you still have to add about 10 hours delay because my train was delayed 6 hours from denver to Sacramento.

  3. It takes 39 and a half hours

  4. 3-4 days on Amtrak.

  5. The best routing, assuming that the trains are on time, will take almost exactly three days.

    Here's an example, taken from Amtrak's website:

    Leave NY Penn Station at 4:00pm on 4 August on the Lake Shore Limited.

    Change trains in Chicago and board the California Zephyr

    Arrive 4:11pm on 7 August in Sacramento
