How long does it take for Dairy Queen to make a cake with a custom picture on it?

Also, does it have to be an actual picture, or could i print one off the internet and get it done?

Define custom picture. Dairy Queen cakes have a cake image catalogue, and we consider any image that is not in there, a custom image. Say, if you wanted Yoshi on the cake (which we dont have in our cake catalogue btw), in a gel drawing, it wouldn't take longer than a normal order. As Yoshi is very well known, we just print off an image of Yoshi and use that as a guide to draw. Also, no additional charges are added for gel drawings!!

For custom PHOTO images, we charge $10.00 extra and we ask for 2-3 days in advance because if the owner/manager isn't in, we can't scan it. We then scan the photo, crop it, if it is too big on a photo editing program, then print it on edible image paper. Edible images are flatter and provide much more detail and a sleeker look. However, it tastes like sweetened paper. >_<

You could print an image off the internet, no problem! The manager could scan it and make it into an edible image or the cake decoraters could draw it with gel.

Note: As a general rule of thumb, edible images are only available on 10" cakes and sheet cakes due to image sizing issues.

I once got a cake with a custom picture on it, but it wasn't an ice cream cake. I'm going to guess they use the same method to get the picture on the cake, because what they basically do it copy the picture onto rice paper (or some other kind of edible paper) and lay it on the cake. This shouldn't take more than an hour to do, as I got my cake the same day I ordered it.

A word of warning: The paper they put the picture on doesn't taste that great =P
